Bird Hunting & Shooting
This page is to support bird hunters and hunting dogs.   The Ranger loves to bird hunt, but he has not had the privilege to have a bird dog.   So we must ask for your help to make this page become a source of information and support by submitting your stories, and photos.  Thanks

From our Strange but True file
The inscription on the metal bands used by the U.S. Department of
the Interior to tag migratory birds has been changed.
The bands used to bear the address of the Washington Biological Survey,
abbreviated: "Wash. Biol. Surv."  until the agency received
the following letter from an Arkansas camper:

"Dear Sirs:
While camping last week I shot one of your birds.
I think it was a crow.
I followed the cooking instructions on the leg tag and
I want to tell you it was horrible."

The bands are now marked Fish and Wildlife Service.

Well the Ranger and his family joined and visited the "Redmond Oregon Rod and Gun Club" today.  We showed up around 6:00pm and were met by a very wonder group of people.  I have been to a few gun ranges before, but the folks at this one are "A" one in my book.  We had no clue what was going on, but once we told them we were new, they all adopted us.  We enjoyed 2 normal rounds and then got invited to the games.  Once they figured our we could actually shoot (Ha Ha).  We did a little game called "Chip it" where with your partner (My Son) shoots to chip the clay pigeon and the other person shoots the chip.  It was a blast.  I personally want to thank everyone there for the great hospitality. Quail Hunting News

Great Story from Tom Radde:

Well one day I was out duck hunting with one of my Springers.
I had a great double on two nice blue wings, as I sent my
Springer
on the retrieve, it seemed she was getting off the mark in the
cattails,
I called her back to give her a new mark, and she came out of the
swamp with a big 'ol Carp. Slightly amused. I gave her a back,
to pick up the ducks. Well she went off in a completely different
direction, and brought back another huge Carp.
This time I was pissed off, as I had to get to work, I thought I
would
come back later with another dog. Not wanting to waste anything,
I took the Carp home to smoke them, and in cleaning them,
inside each one, was a blue wing teal!!!
